Our Empowerment Team is constantly learning and doing research, and we want to share this with you. We have created our Empowerment Materials based on this learning and research and we are sharing it with you here.

These materials form the building blocks of the skills and information we believe we need to enforce and protect the rights of neurodivergent children and their families. They include:
Making Complaints to the NHS or Local Authorities
These materials give a basic introduction to the benefits system, and more details on disability benefits that might be available to you.
These materials share information about the political and legal systems that are relevant to us. At STAND, we believe that it is important to understand how we can make a difference even when it overwhelming to do so, and engaging in the political system is a good first step. These materials include:
We have more materials that we are in the process of uploading on to the website. Unfortunately this takes time, and we are a small group of volunteers, but we will get there eventually! Examples include:
human rights
equality law
education law and guidance
housing law and guidance
health law and guidance
how to enforce rights
If you have ideas of materials that would be particularly useful to you, please let us know by emailing empowerment@standuk.co.uk.
STAND would love to be able to provide support to you in each and every situation you need it, but the reality is that we cannot do that. Instead, STAND will work to empower you so that you feel confident and equipped when breaking down those barriers.
STAND can help you by sharing the experience of other parents and carers in fighting for the rights of the children and neurodivergent children that they care for. STAND can signpost you to the right places for support, and share basic information about your rights.
Remember that the information on this website is not legal advice - it would be impossible to explain every detail and every exception of every law that is relevant in this area (that’s what a law degree is for!).
The idea is for you to get a general idea of the rights that exist, and where to find out more information about them. STAND cannot give you legal advice, or provide an answer to everything, but you are more than capable of doing it yourself with the right support.
Please remember that these materials are produced by volunteers, in their spare time, on behalf of a charity. They should not be used or relied upon as an authoritative source of information on law or policy. If in doubt, seek your own legal advice.
